Hello Writers:

We have a great opportunity to showcase our work.  Last month we talked briefly about the inquiry from the Mo`olelo Performing Arts Company about their upcoming play and Mike and I met with Seema Sueko to get more details. They have asked us to be part of a video presentation to be shown before the start of their play, How I Got That Story. Read more about the play on their website: http://moolelo.net/

Since the play tells the story of a journalist covering a Vietnam-like war, we would like to have some short stories, poems, etc., with a military slant to include in our part of the pre-show presentation. We are also asking that you bring a copy of a photograph of you in uniform, in country, with mates, before enlistment, etc., that we could use in a collage. We would also like you to be prepared to read your work. Several of you have already shared such a story and you might want to reread those if we didn’t film them before.

Or here is a suggestion. We have been busy listening to a lot of music these past few weeks, and I don’t mean just Christmas songs, and it got us thinking. Some songs bring up such vivid memories of time and place so we are asking that you rewind the soundtrack of your life and write something about that one song that you remember most from your time in service, or before or after.  Maybe it’s the song on the radio that was interrupted when the towers fell, or the song Ann-Margret sang in Chu Lai in ’68, or what you downloaded before deploying, or maybe you are Tom Cruising across the sky listening to Danger Zone. What song sends you back in time to that part of you life? Have fun with this, entertain us, even sing us a few bars if you like.

We are taking a head count to attend “How I Got That Story” on Saturday, February 25, 7:30 p.m. at the 10th Avenue Theatre, 930 10th Avenue, Downtown. The non-profit ticket is $12 each. Please let me know if you are interested in attending so I can reserve some seats together.

See you on January 21, 11 a.m………
