April 2012 Newsletter

Hi Dear Ones!

Goodmaker

We're in the top running of Good Magazine's Art Challenge and we need your votes to win this thing. All you have to do is log in and vote for The Far East Project. That's it. We keep bouncing between 1st and 3rd place, so every person makes a difference!

Profile Picture

So Say We All has partnered with The Urbanist and 3rd Space on a monthly initiative to bring financial assisstance to local artists: Pizza Parlay. Anyone can submit a proposal for a creative project that needs a little funding. Then, at a pizza party open to the public, Parlay attendees vote on their favorite submissions. The winning project will be announced on Urbanistguide.com the next day, and granted the funds from the cover charge + a 3-month membership to 3rdSpace! The grant is made up of $10 from each $12 cover, so the more attendees, the bigger the grant! Check it out, and if you're an artist, submit your proposal to us!

Upcoming submission deadlines:

April 1st, 2012: "The Far East"
April 2nd, 2012: April VAMP - "April Showers of Shame"
Note: All upcoming VAMP themes and submission deadlines can be found here.

Upcoming Shows:

March 2012 VAMP Showcase: “History Repeating”

March’s VAMP harkens up tales of times when we felt like we’ve been through it all before, the moment we realized we’re becoming our parents, deja vu on parade, the sense that all of this has happened before and all of this will happen again.

Burn This Image Vol. 1: Drive, Refn, and the Collective Unconscious

Burn This Image Vol. 1: Drive, Refn, and the Collective Unconscious
Craig Oliver's new series is going to woo the hardcore cinemaphiles and novices alike. First up: it’s the rare film the burrows its way into the collective unconscious, but 2011′s neon-noir fairy tale/fever dream-of-a-film, Drive, the first American film by Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn, seems to have done just that. The deceptively simple story of a stunt-driver-by-day/getaway-driver-by-night who finds himself embroiled in romantic notions-gone-wrong plays on Grimm’s Fairy Tale ideas of good vs. evil and the blurry line in-between, and has proven itself to be one of the most obsessed-over films of the past few years. The film will be preceded by trailers for Refn’s other films as well as for influences on Drive, a brief introduction to the film, a screening of Drive, and a post open-forum discussion for anyone interested. Popcorn and refreshments will be available, and feel free to bring your dinner with you. Screening will be held outdoors, so please bring a jacket in case it's cool out (we'll have firepits going as well).

April’s VAMP revisits one of our favorite show themes, where we all sit around and bond over our most horrifyingly embarrassing moments. Because if you talk about it in the name of art, it doesn’t sting as much, right? We’ll find out!
