Today is the first day of our first monthly contest held on facebook, so lets see if you have what it takes to win. For prizes see the “Notification” section below. Contest Eligibility: The Writing Contest is open to any U.S. Veteran, regardless of experience. You must be prepared to show proof of Veterans status if asked. Only U.S. Military Veterans are eligible. Decisions: Judges are Facebook members. Number of votes will determine the winner. This method allows the public one vote. Votes are based on the number of Facebook likes each piece receives. All work should be judged on the basis of originality, creative imagination, character introduction and development; plot development, adherence to the 500 word limit. A stalemate will result in a vote from one writing group officer. The officers will determine which officer casts the final vote. No officer competing in the contest can vote to break a stalemate. All decisions of the judges are final. Rights: All stories remain the property of the artist who wrote or created them. Notifications: All prize winners will be notified in person or by email or telephone. The winning writer will have his/her name and brief biographical information published on the VETERANS WRITING GROUP and Writing Contest Facebook page upon the completion of each monthly contest. The monthly winner will receive one group coffee cup and one custom VWG group T-Shirt and the option to select the next month’s contest photo. Prizes can be mailed to winners unable to collect in person. A final contest in December will consist of counting the votes for previous month’s winners. The winning piece from previous months with the most votes will be the annual winner. The prize for the annual winner is a surprise.
