Away for The Holidays is a collection of stories written by veterans in the Veterans Writing Group San Diego. Each shares a story of celebrating holidays--that time of family, food, friendship and relative safety-- far from those they love. Their stores are heartwarming and heart-rending, funny and frightening as they recall Christmas’ spent on the battlefields of World War II, Vietnam or Kandahar. For the civilian reader, these under-the-helmet stories reveal the everyday sacrifices, camaraderie and pride of our military. For those who have served, these stories will bring back memories of being young and away from home for the holidays. Authors include Jack McDaniel, Terry Severhill, William Swanson, Charlie Wyatt, Dolph Brostrom, Shirley Turner, Glen Foss, Richard Hayward, Jerry Watson, Bud Parson, Robert Caudill, Thomas Calabrese, Dante Pucetti, Garry G. Garretson, Chuck Rabel, Ron Pickett, Joe Snyder, Terry Moon, Ramon Garcia, Stacey Thompson ad Jack Autrey.

Listen Up! is the second book published by the Veterans' Writing Group San Diego. These stories and poems were written by 27 authors, many of whom are being published for the first time. They represent all branches of service and span several decades and five conflicts. We are especially pleased to present stories by seven women. We believe this enhances the breadth and depth of the military experiences related. The VWG is committed to supporting writing---for getting the stories told and for the benefit that comes to the writers. We hope that through these short memoirs, readers will get a better understanding of military service and the sacrifices that are made on our country's behalf. As with our first book, Away for the Holidays, we hope to distribute 3,000 copies of this book to veterans and active-duty military personnel who will be in hospitals or in transit during the year. Purchase of this book will help up meet that goal.

Stories That Must Be Told/This is the third book published by the Veterans' Writing Group of San Diego. It includes stories written by World War II, Cold War, Vietnam War, War on Terror, and women veterans. The stories range from tragic to frivolous, from exciting to everyday. They depict life and death in the military and provide insight into the experiences of our nation’s service members and veterans. Many Americans don’t know anyone om active duty, much less have first-hand knowledge of the sacrifices made on their behalf. This is your opportunity to obtain insight into the lives of armed forces personnel. You will be moved and enlightened by their stories. What’s more, all the proceeds from sales of this book will be used to subsidize donation of copies of Stories That Must Be Told to military and Veterans Administration hospitals, the USO, veterans’ homes, and other veterans-oriented organizations.

At Ease - Now That I Have Time to Think About It is the fourth book of stories published by the Veterans' Writing Group of San Diego County (VWG). At Ease includes stories about heroic events and emotional moments, reflections on the impact of military service, and the unique environment. There are stories of camaraderie, abandonment, and isolation; of joy and defeat, of humor and fear

These stories will help you understand what it really means to say "Thank you for your service."

The goals of the VWG are to get the stories of veterans published and readily available for the majority of the population with increasingly limited exposure to the military experience.
